If you want to
upload your own competition courses in Catching Features, here
are a few small tips to get you started:
- Do not
upload any of the built-in courses in Catching Features.
- Do not re-upload
a course that already has been played.
- If you create
a course on the built-in maps of Catching Features, make sure it's very different
than the existing courses.
- Make sure the
course has correct control definitions. For example, information like
on which side of a boulder/knoll must be present, otherwise the players just
have to guess.
- Before you upload,
make sure to give a good description of what kind of map and course it is.
For example, is it a random map, a real map or an OCAD freehand map?
- If you insert
new controls objects into a map (such as after an OCAD conversion) make sure
to first put a copy of the control.jpg file into the main folder for
the map. Also, read the model and the texture for the control stick from that
folder for each inserted control.
- Test-run the
course! Make sure all the controls punch exactly at the control sticks. If
they don't, correct this in CF Edit.
- If you have
created a new map, make sure that there isn't any big "walls" appearing
along the course.
- After you have
adjusted a position of a control's circle, make it a habit to always check
Courses/Lock Control Locations directly afterwards in CF Edit. That
way, you'll make sure that no other control circles are moved accidentaly
when you're editing other things.
- If you have
converted an OCAD map and added the control sticks to the terrain (and your
course mainly takes place in the woods), you also should do the following
in CF Edit:
1. Press the F3 key to open the texture list
2. Press the Select None button
3. Select the line in the list that says control.jpg
4. Click on the Properties button
5. Check both the IsShadowed and 1/3 View Dist check boxes.
(The 1/3 View Dist is very important to use for controls, otherwise
the controls will be too easy to detect in the woods.)
6. Click OK button
7. Select All button
8. Close the texture list and save the map
- If you insert
new control objects in the woods, shade them (use Edit/Shade Selected
Pts directly after you've inserted the control 3ds object) so they don't
become too "shiny" in the terrain.
- You don't have
to put any .3ds files you use in the map folder (since they are fully included
as triangles in the map file itself). However, you need to put all extra textures
you use in the map folder.
