[JW Lua] Storing and retreiving script-specific data

Hello Jari and list members,

is there a proper way to store and retrieve script-specific data
in between subsequent calls of a script?

Here's the background:

I could misuse a newly created expression or an articulation for
that purpose, but that would be a more or less a dirty workaround.
So, is there a proper recommended practice?
