[JW Lua] time signatures in JWLua

Does anyone know how to handle time signatures properly in JWLua? 

Using time_sig from measure:GetTimeSignature(), then time_sig:SetBeats(x) and time_sig:SetBeatDuration(y) corrupt measures where the previous meter is composite or has a different display value, and neither SetCompositeTop(false) nor SetCompositeBottom(false) seem to work, though they're listed in the <ff_timesig.h> header. (Neither do CreateCompositeTop() or CreateCompositeBottom()).

Any ideas, or is this a JWL dead end?
